UI Design Trends for 2024
Another year, another transformation to the design landscape.
Here are six highly anticipated trends that designers are expected to implement in 2024.
Table of Contents
- Ribbed Glass
- 3D Animation
- Bento
- Dark Mode
- Bold Typography
- No-code Web Builders
Ribbed Glass
A callback to the mid-century modern interior design style, Ribbed Glass is a design choice used mainly as an accessory to elevate imagery with unique distortion patterns and light diffusion properties.
3D Animation
Although requiring a high level of technical skill for UI designers, the ability to incorporate custom 3D animations into an app or webpage can increase user engagement immensely.
The following example was created using Cinema 4D, After Effects, and Figma.
Bento
The rise of the Bento design trend can be attributed to Apple, the company that popularized this method in many of their website layouts and keynote presentations.
Organizing elements neatly while providing visual balance within a composition can boost the user experience and decrease the time it takes for a user to comprehend the content.
Dark Mode
Whether it’s used for accessibility purposes, or to achieve a certain aesthetic goal, Dark Mode is becoming in increasingly higher demand for UI development.
It is within this trend we expect to see one of the broadest implementations, ranging from mobile, to desktop, operating systems, and even smart devices such as TVs.
Bold Typography
Bold typography, if done correctly, can effectively replace the need for captivating logos and hero imagery on landing pages and splash screens.
According to Design Studio, bold typography can convey a strong brand presence and personality, establish visual hierarchy, and even increase legibility for users with dyslexia.
No-Code Web Builders
UI Designers are always searching for tools to expand their skill set. No-code web builders aren’t excluded from this search.
FlutterFlow, WebFlow, and Framer are just a few examples of technologies made available to designers that aid the transition from wireframes and mockups to fully-functional apps and websites.
Cutting down development time for software engineers means they can put more effort into polishing the final deliverables.
